The Searching Line

Experimental drawing through movement and attentive observation

A line does not have to know where it is going. In this workshop you explore what happens when you change familiar drawing habits. Movement, close observation and unfamiliar ways of holding a pencil make room for images of your own.

What to expect

  1. The wandering line

Follow a line and let it grow. Choose any subject; lifting the pencil, pausing and beginning again are all part of the process. You decide how to continue.

  2. Look more, control less

In blind drawing, your eyes stay open and mostly on the subject. Look at the paper less often and let your hand follow what you observe. Occasional glances at the page are welcome.

  3. Discover the other hand

Using your non-dominant hand changes familiar movements. If changing hands is not possible, you can try a different way of holding the pencil.

  4. Keep drawing in your own way

In an extended free drawing phase, bring these experiences together. Faces, plants, objects, landscapes or abstract forms: the choice is yours. Sharing your work at the end is optional.

Pay attention without judging

Mindfulness here means noticing how you look, move and feel the pencil against the paper. There is no prescribed right result. You can work sitting or standing, take breaks and find your own rhythm.

Explore with simple materials

Paper, pencils and felt-tip pens form the basis. Usable materials already at hand and reusable tools take priority. Depending on the space and tested equipment, we may also draw with an extended pencil. I will let you know in advance what is provided and what you can bring.

Open to new experiences

The workshop is for people aged 16 and over. No drawing experience is needed. The date, venue, group size, price and materials are still being arranged. You will receive all details before making a binding booking.
